About Bus Station Županja

How to get to the station?

Bus Station Županja is located at Zagrebačka 14. If you find yourself in the center of the city, it means that the bus station is 0.7 km away from you or in other words just 8 minutes of an easy walk. There is really no reason even if you have a baggage, to arrange a taxi at that distance. Okay, okay ... unless you're just overwhelmed with things.

If your route takes you to the plane right after you leave a bus, more precisely if you use a combined type of transport, it is worth knowing that once you are in Županja the nearest airport is the one in Osijek. Which means, 58 km of road distance. If this solution doesn't suit you, it's not uncommon for passengers to go to the airport in Belgrade, which is about 137 km from Županja.

The train station from the bus station is about 600 m away. Short distance? We agree. The best thing is to ask one of the locals for exact directions.

According to the short distance to the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is only a few hundred meters away, it is no surprise that from Županja there are buses to smaller towns in the region, as well as buses to Slavonski Brod and major Croatian cities.

    What can I find here?

Bus Station Županja is not enviable in size or content. However, what you need while waiting for your bus will be within easy reach. Don't worry that you will be bored even if you have a few hours before taking the bus. After all, considering the small distance from the station to the center of the city, you can go for a walk.

In the vicinity of the station itself you will find a parking lot which is ideal if you have a family member or a friend who came to make you a company while waiting. One problem solved, right? In addition, 190 m away there is a petrol station, and the shopping center, or supermarket, is 230 m away.

If you have just arrived in the city and you don't have a reserved apartment or relatives where you can stay, this is actually the right time to walk around and consider the surrounding hotels or hostels. But, depending on the budget and the affinity, it is good to consider all the options offered, such as private accommodation too.

If you've got time to kill

If you have time to learn more about the city of Županja, we suggest that you visit a monument to the first soccer ball located at the main square.

The first monument, which was built in 1980, was destroyed during the war. What is connection between Županja and soccer? It's very simple. Županja is the cradle of football in Croatia. In 1880 there was the first play of football in the Republic of Croatia in the game played by the Županja against England.

Except for football, Županja is also known for the story of their special Lady. It is about Catherine Horvatovic who, marrying for the Englishman Fredy Hepburna, has become, literally, the first lady of the city. The fairy tales of her are still popular in the area of Županja, and domestic grandmothers are telling them like some kind of a bedtime story to theirs grandchildren with special joy. If you are interested in more details ask the locals.

After all, Catherine donated a land to her city and locals on which there is today the "Graničar" Football Club.

If you like to visit the interesting sacral objects of the cities you visit, in the case of Županja we recommend visiting the church of Martyrdom of St. John the Baptist. In addition, there is another church which is devoted to Nikola Tavelić, and many will find it interesting too.
